When God first gave me the vision to start a magazine for Christian women (visit sheleadsdaily.com to learn more) I decided to do some research. I wanted to know what was out there and who my “competition” was.
So I jumped online and began my search. Just a few minutes after I found myself feeling defeated and hopeless. Why? Because I had discovered that there were a ton of other magazines out there for Christian women—and they were all doing an amazing job.
There was no way I could compete with them. Should I even try?
That is when God spoke to me so clearly about how I was viewing my “competition”. He pointed out to me how they weren’t competition. He reminded me that we are all members of the body of Christ and are therefore called to work together.
You might be a hand that comes across another hand. When that first happens we feel discouraged and think, “there is already another hand, does the body really need me?” Yet, as people we are so grateful to have two hands (and probably at times wish we had more). That other hand might look similar to you, but when you look really closely there are differences. You may have a similar calling, but you each have a unique purpose. And when the two hands decide to work together, they are stronger and can accomplish more things.
As a business owner and marketer I am constantly told to be aware of my competition. As a Christian women, I am a firm believer that in the body of Christ there is no competition. And now I am a huge advocate of that among Christian women.
I no longer view similar businesses as competition. Instead, I want to reach out to them and tell them that I understand their struggles and want to encourage/pray for them.
As Christian women, we are called to be godly sisters and to love one another. We need to support and encourage each other. We need to cheer each other on as we each run our race.
The enemies tactics include causing strife among the body, but when we choose to stand united we overcome that.
I want to encourage you today to stop competing and start loving. Stop comparing and start supporting. I’m going to take it a step further and even challenge you to reach out to a Christian women you view as competition and set-up a virtual coffee date with her. You’ll be relieved when you finally get connect with someone who understand your passions, desire and struggles. Encourage each other, love each other and support each other. Through that you will find yourself being a light to others in the business world.
Who can you reach out to today?
