When I stepped into full-time entrepreneurship and started working from home one of the biggest challenges I faced was knowing how to manage my time.
I was used to having a set work schedule and a manager telling me what to do, and now that I no longer had that I felt, well, a little bit confused.
I had wanted this freedom for so long, but now I found myself wondering what to do with it.
Knowing how to manage yourself as an entrepreneur can feel tricky, but there are a few things I have learned since that have made managing my time so much easier that I believe can help you.
Here are my tips for managing your time as an entrepreneur:
Tip #1: Design your weekly schedule
First things first, decide what you want your weekly schedule to look like. You don’t have to follow the traditional 9-5, you get to decide what you want it to look like! What do you want your work hours to be? What days do you want to work? You get to decide.
Tip #2: Design your daily schedule
Now that you have your week set out, decide what you want every day to look like. How do you want to start your morning? What do your afternoon and evening look like? When do you work, play and rest? Again, you get to decide.
Tip #3: Use a planner
Once you’ve decided on a schedule, it’s time to stick to it! You have to be your own manager and keep yourself accountable. I’ve found that the best way to do it is to use a planner. I like to use a mix of online and paper.
Tip #4: Be flexible
Remember that you started this whole entrepreneurship thing so that you could have freedom and flexibility, so enjoy it! Give yourself space to do the things you enjoy, work the hours you want to work, and make the things that matter to you a priority in both business and life. You get to be your own boss!
Tip #5: Do what works for you
I realized that the best thing I could do (instead of copying someone else) was to figure out what worked for me. I like routine, I like to work in one specific block of the day and then disconnect, I like consistency and I like some flexibility. I can’t work the way someone else works because it simply does not work for me.
Give yourself the grace and the space to find a rhythm and routine that works for you. It’s all about creating your dream business and living your best life. Enjoy it!
